Major update 25/9/2025: Think Back, short film
Our experience:
We were thrilled to take part in Flow Festival Australia’s 48-Hour Film Challenge – an intense but rewarding experience for our whole team. In just two days, we took on the full journey of filmmaking: brainstorming, scripting, scouting locations, setting up, acting, filming, editing, and final production. Between Friday 4pm and Sunday 4pm, it was a whirlwind of creativity and problem-solving, and we’re proud to have submitted our film on time.
One of the biggest challenges was balancing two key requirements: telling a complete story within just 3–5 minutes, and doing it with clear, engaging storytelling. It wasn’t easy, but it pushed us to grow as filmmakers and collaborators.
We loved every second of this challenge and hope to expand this project into a longer short film as one of our upcoming summer projects!
To watch this film, simply log in and check under conversation category, find the title “Think Back” and play the video!
Enjoy the short film!

What our Learners say
Resources:
- This is my favourite website to learn Auslan through especially as it has stuff beyond beginner level, which can be hard to find, and it has helped me heaps with supplementing my learning at Diploma of Auslan at TAFE. I feel it has improved my receptive skills a lot especially with fast fingerspelling. There are heaps of different activities such as fingerspelling, numbers, guess the signs as well as lots of stories plus it keeps being updated regularly. It is cool that there are different signers too, to get a variety. For the activities where you submit for marking the feedback is always friendly and helpful. 6 out of 5 stars! Sas. P
- Challenge Your Auslan has been a great support to my formal Auslan studies. Earlier this year, I was struggling with my Auslan receptive skills especially with fingerspelling. However, subscribing to Challenge Your Auslan has provided me with the resources and feedback to help bring my skills up to the required diploma level. There are so many wonderful videos on the Challenge Your Auslan website from fingerspelling and number challenges to conversations and linguistics. Justin has done an excellent job putting together a varied, motivating and effective program. I am so grateful to have discovered Challenge Your Auslan right when I needed it the most. Rachel. M
I’ve been really enjoying Challenge Your Auslan—even though life sometimes gets in the way and I don’t manage to practise every day!
It’s such a great resource for helping me keep up my Auslan and not lose this beautiful language of yours. I’m a bit rusty, but thanks to your program, I feel like I’m getting back on track. You’ve made it possible for people like me to improve again.
I especially love the variety of learning methods you offer, like fingerspelling, storytelling, and more. Alida. C
Tutor sessions:
- Justin is an outstanding Auslan teacher. He is also great company! Each week we meet for coffee and converse about what’s been happening. As we go, he teaches me new signs, answers my questions and gets me to practise previous material. Each week I go away feeling more confident, like I have made fresh progress as well as consolidated my learning. JP
